Comprehensive microbiological laboratory tests

Microbiological analyses enable reliable detection of the sources of infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and parasites, respecting the principle from the right place, at the right time and in the right way.

In the Standard laboratory, within the bacteriological analysis, the isolation of bacteria from different samples (urine, faeces, sputum, swab or secretions) enables identification of them as possible causes of infection. This way, it is possible to examine the sensitivity of bacteria to various antibiotics, which is very important in choosing the appropriate therapy.

Virological studies are based on proving the presence of antigens (parts of the viruses themselves) in the sample or proving the presence of specific antibodies, which are produced within the body's immune response to a particular virus.

Parasitological analyses include direct parasitological examination of the sample (most commonly stool-faeces) and indirect methods, such are immunodiagnostic tests. Direct parasitological examination reveals the presence of parasites, while indirect methods reveal the presence of antibodies created to a particular parasite in the patient's serum.

Mycological analyses are based on the isolation of pathogenic fungi from various biological materials. Pathogenic fungi can be isolated from faeces, urine, swabs, sputum and scarificates, while antibodies to fungi can be isolated from the patient's serum. In the framework of these tests, cultivation of fungi and microscopy representing direct methods is conducted, as well as enzymatic tests, representing indirect methods.

For majority of microbiological studies, it is necessary to conduct special preparation of the patient, and take a sample 3 to 5 days after the cessation of antibiotic therapy.

Microbiological testings require the patient to make necessary preparation, especially regarding patients receiving antibiotic therapy. For more information about the preparation before conduct of microbiological testings, you may consult our expert team.
